Ingredients & Evidence

Evidence before hype. Purpose before trends.

A useful ingredient has a clear job, suitable formulation and realistic place in your routine. Not every trending ingredient is essential.

Look beyond the headline

A familiar ingredient name does not tell you everything.

Concentration, pH, ingredient form, delivery system, stability, packaging and the surrounding formula all influence how a product performs and feels. Your own sensitivities and routine matter too.

That is why we look at formulas as complete systems—not as a contest to collect the longest list of trending ingredients.

A simple evidence lens

Ask what it is for—and how certain the claim is.

Well established

Moisture support

Humectants, emollients and occlusives can support hydration and comfort in different ways. The useful mix depends on the finished formula and your skin.

Strong purpose

UV protection

Approved UV filters in sunscreen products help protect against ultraviolet radiation when the product is used as directed.

Varies

Targeted actives

Usefulness depends on the ingredient, strength, formulation, frequency and the concern it is meant to address.

Often variable

Botanicals & trends

A familiar or natural-sounding ingredient is not automatically essential, gentle or effective in every formula.

Five useful questions

Read a claim without getting lost in it.

  1. What is it?Ingredient, blend, delivery system or marketing name?
  2. What is it used for? What specific job is the claim describing?
  3. How strong is the evidence? Is it established, promising, limited or specific to one formula?
  4. Who may find it useful?Does it match a real priority and tolerance?
  5. What are the limits? What does the claim not prove?

A standard should be explainable

“Clean” is a brand standard—not a universal safety verdict.

In Canada, cosmetics must meet federal safety and labelling requirements. Artistry Clean adds its own clearly defined formulation choices.

  • A proprietary No List of more than 1,700 ingredients that Artistry chooses not to use.
  • A Yes List that highlights selected botanical and science-based ingredients used with purpose.
  • Vegan Skin Nutrition formulas made without animal-derived ingredients and not tested on animals, according to Artistry.

That does not mean every ingredient outside this standard is unsafe. It means you can understand the commitments behind these particular formulas and decide whether they align with your preferences.

Know the journey

Traceability turns an ingredient story into something you can examine.

Artistry documents the seed-to-skin journey for key botanicals—from plant source and cultivation through extraction, research and the finished formula. This level of visibility helps connect an ingredient claim to its origin and quality process.
